John (Jack) F. Smith Jr.
Retired Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, General Motors Corporation
Jack Smith served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of General Motors
Corporation (GM) from January 1996 to May 2003. Smith also served as Chief
Executive Officer from November 1992 to June 2000, President from April 1992 to
October 1998, and President and Chief Operating Officer from April 1992 to
November 1992. From August 1990 to April 1992, Smith served as Vice Chairman of
GM with responsibility for international operations. Beginning in June 1988 he
was Executive Vice President with responsibility for GM's international
operations.
Smith is a retired, non-executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of Delta
Air Lines and a member of the Board of Directors of Exa Corporation. He serves
as a special advisor to GM and is a member of the President’s Export Council.
Smith is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts and received an MBA from
Boston University.
